We believe it is vital to bring women to the forefront of business and the technology industry by asking the tough questions to drive change. That is why, on Tuesday, Cruxy led a group of ten, 7 to 8 year-old girls, to the heights of Level39 in the FinTech hub of London in partnership with I Can Be. I Can Be is an education programme taking girls in London to visit inspiring women in business to expand their horizons. These are three reasons why we found this session to be so enlightening:
1. The curiosity of young girls must be nurtured.
Upon introducing the girls to the concept of business and leading a company, we were subsequently met by a flurry of pointed and challenging questions. Their enquiries were often more incisive than those we receive from graduates and industry professionals. This curious attitude needs to be instilled from a young age and nurtured with encouragement to fight the gender bias within business.
2. Seeing is believing
Immersed in the throbbing heart of growing FinTech businesses, Level39, & with the entire London skyline of opportunity stretched out before the students, we strived to set the tone of immensity opportunity. We must teach girls to look through the lens of real women, during a time where successful females are often confined by the unconscious bias present within the industry. Inspiring girls with a tangible realisation of the possibilities present will permeate further than simply encouraging them with empty statistics about the decrease of gender inequality in the workplace.
3.It is imperative to start young.
Change comes through action. Breaking the cycle of female subordination within business will take an entire shift in the workforce, so it is imperative to bring this shift when the next generation enter the workforce. It will take more than a hashtag on twitter or ‘diversifying’ a board. Instilling passion to fulfil ambition in young people & inspiring drive to quell barriers to achieving it is essential.
